Kerrey To Leave New School In 2011
By Aidan Gardiner
At a board of trustees meeting on May 6, New School President Bob Kerrey announced that he would leave the university when his contract expires on July 1, 2011. Kerrey said that he made the announcement now to give the board enough time to search for and hire a new president for the university. He added that the recent student protests did not play any part in his decision.
"I believe it's good for the university for me not to renew my term," said Kerrey in an interview on May 7.
"I think the university benefited from having a high energy entrepreneur person who could raise the profile, raise some money," he said. "But I think it probably needs a more traditional academic leader now."
